Coaching: I Don’t Get It!

“I don’t get it.”

That’s the response I got yesterday when I told someone what I do. And it’s not the first time. While many may have heard of coaching, they can’t quite wrap their minds around exactly what I do, how I do it, and why people would work with me.

In order to give a better understanding, I take people back to my corporate days. As part of senior leadership, several times a year, we had strategic meetings. We usually used a trained facilitator to work with us. Not because we couldn’t think and act strategically, but because an objective eye could ensure that we examined all perspectives.

This was the time when we remove ourselves from the day to day operations and focused on the company as a whole. Where are we now? Where are we headed? Are we on track to accomplish our goals? Where are we falling short? What are we doing right? Can we do some things better? Do we have unresolved issues that need to be addressed? Are we sure we can accomplish this on our own? Do we need additional skills, knowledge or training? How will we track our progress? How will we hold ourselves accountable?

This type of planning is perfectly acceptable in corporate America, yet many people don’t go through this same type of process for their own life. That’s why working with a coach can provide such transformational results. It’s the opportunity to step away from your day-to-day life and ask yourself powerful questions about where you are (the status of your career, finances, relationships, business and personal life), where you want to go, and how, specifically, you will get there. I help you sift through, manage, and act on your answers.

I believe that people are naturally creative, resourceful and whole – completely capable of finding their own answers to whatever challenges they face. You already know who you are and what you need. I am simply an expert in the coaching process – equipped with tools and techniques to help you discover what your own personal “best” might be.

My role is to ask powerful questions, listen and empower my clients to use the skills and creativity they already possess and take decisive action on it.

How? I help you:

  • Discover what’s really most important to you in your life.
  • Design a plan to achieve those things.
  • Work with you to eliminate obstacles or blocks that stand in your way.
  • Partner with you all the way to success.
  • Celebrate your successes!

Every day we make choices. These choices either move us closer to our personal best or take us further away. Working with a coach helps you make choices that connect what you say you want with what you actually pursue and ultimately get.
